Pineapples Cultivated in Costa Rica
At PCC we take pride in our innovative spirit and our commitment to cleaner agricultural practices.
As of 2024 — after 6 years of R&D — we have reduced our use of pesticides by 81%.
The target of the EC Green Pact Deal is a 50% reduction by 2030.
Protected by Natural Repellents
Pesticide use has become an increasing topic of debate between farmers and civil society organizations (CSOs). For that reason, in 2018 we began to use natural pest control mechanisms to grow healthier pineapples without disrupting our ecosystem.
The level of chemical pesticides used by Costa Rican growers is controlled by robust certification programs. This allows our industry to safely export roughly 85% of the pineapple consumed in Europe and the United States.
Synthetic and chemical pesticides optimize crop yields and ensure quality for “conventional” pineapple production.
At PCC we departed from the mainstream.
We have created our own natural and non-chemical means to protect crops from disease and pests. Our Innovation and commitment to promoting sustainable practices allow us to stand out from the status quo in Costa Rica.
